Dorothy Jean (Davis) Wheeler

LATTA - Dorothy Jean Davis Wheeler was born December 2, 1939, to the late Same & Maggie Jones.  She entered into eternal rest on April 11, 2021, at her home in Latta, SC.  

She attended the Public Schools of Dillon County.  Dorothy converted her life at an early age, where she joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Floyd Dale, SC.  She served as the church secretary, member of the choir and usher board and served in the kitchen committee.  She was a faithful member and served wherever service was needed within the church until her health declined.  She also served as superintendent of Sunday School and on the steward board. 

She was a member of the Eastern Stars and was a member of Tent 40. Dorothy retired after 20 years of service from Sarah Lee Hosery of Marion, South Carolina. She continued to work after retirement until her health declined with the Counsel of the Aging.

Dorothy met and married Howard Wheeler who preceded her in death, into this union six children were born; three preceded her in death: Howard Jerome Wheeler, Preston Lewis Wheeler and Manfred Wheeler. Also preceded her in death one grandchild, Monica Wheeler; two brothers: Clyde Dixon, Jimmy Davis; and six sisters; Mary Frances, Clara Cabbagestalk, Juanita German, Annie Grice, Mary Kate Brown, and Elizabeth Pouncey. 

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories her children all of the home, Cynthia Warren (Stoney), Lawrence Wheeler (Juanne) and Anthony Wheeler (Janie); thirteen grandchildren, Fredrick, Crystal, Cassie, Towanda, Rachel, Karen, Lawrence, Jr., Kimeka, Quashieka, Jonathan, Ashlee, and Shelly; one brother, Ernest Davis (Jenny) of Marion S.C.; sister, Essie Moultrie of Latta S.C.; a host of great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends also including Prince.  

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Rest Haven Cemetery with Rev. Drusilla Harvin, officiating.  The family will receive friends and relatives at 110 Covington Street, Latta, SC 29565. The care of  Mother Dorothy Jean Wheeler and her family has been entrusted to the professionals of Leitner Funeral Home in Latta.
