Mr. Roosevelt McRae, son of the late Mr. Richard Junior McRae and Alberta McRae, was born on December 22, 1949, in Marlboro County South Carolina. He quietly departed this life on June 7, 2021, in McLeod Hospital in Dillon, South Carolina.
He was converted at an early age and joined New Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Brownville, South Carolina. He attended Blenheim School in Marlboro County, S.C. He moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1965. He worked at Lindsay Park for 45 years. He retired from there on December 22, 2020. He returned home in April.
He leaves to cherish fond memories to his 4 children, one preceded him in death, Roosevelt McRae, Jr., 4 brothers, who preceded him in death, 2 sisters, and 1 niece.
Roosevelt was loved and will be missed by many. Among those who will cherish his memories a very special friend for 39 years, Brenda Hines of Brooklyn, New York. His children: Nathine McRae of Brooklyn, NY, Katina (Pedro Washington) of Springfield, MA, Keena McRae of Columbia, SC, and Debra Spivey (Omar Spivey) of Omaha, NE. Six sisters: Marylou McRae of Latta, SC, Estella (James Edward Jennings) of Dillon, SC, Ida Williams, Mary Frances McRae both of Latta, SC and Gloria (Alford McCallum) of Rowland, NC and Virginia Stackhouse (RC Stackhouse) of Newark, NJ. Five brothers: Gene McRae of Brooklyn, NY, James Lee McRae, Bud Kenney McRae, Richard Anthony McRae, and Johnny McMillan all of Latta, SC. Like a brother: Warren Mannings of New Jersey. 8 Grandchildren: Tiera (Lionel Arnold), Tashesana (Milo Gray) all of Greenville, SC. Pedro Washington of Springfield, MA, Bryce Alford of Columbia, SC, Ajance Spivey (Trevor Hunt Mason), and Aaron Spivey all from Omaha, NE, Terrence McRae, Shakira McRae of Brooklyn, NY. 5 Great-Grands: Zymir Jamison, Aniyla Jamison, Sincere Jamison, Reign Arnold and Milo Gray Jr., of all of Greenville, SC. Special friend: Robert Lee Ellerbe. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Antioch Church in Brownsville Community with interment in the church cemetery. Mr. McRae and his family has been entrusted to the family of professionals of Leitner Funeral Home.
